At the Heart of the Village for Over 80 Years
Overstrand cricket field’s history stems from the Victorian ‘village of millionaires’ created by Lord and Lady Battersea who established the sports ground with a thatched pavilion designed with Sir Edwin Lutyens’ influence. The sports ground was originally the private cricket ground of Lord and Lady Battersea. The land was purchased by the village in 1936 and placed in a trust to ensure it could be used for cricket and other sports and events ‘in perpetuity’.
Overstrand Sports Club is situated in the centre of the village on the High Street. It is a registered charity and home to a thriving Cricket and Bowls club. The grounds are open to all, 7 days a week. The grounds are host to the renowned Rockstock music festival held in July each year and a showcase for local bands. The grounds also hold regular open mic nights and an annual beer festival plus host village events such as the village fair and other fundraising events. Over the last 80 years Overstrand Sports Club has become a community hub for social events and sports for the residents of Overstrand, holiday visitors and the inhabitants of neighbouring towns and villages.
The Pavilion is a beautiful thatched building in a lovely setting at the entrance of the sports field. The lounge can seat up to 50 people and there is a fully equipped kitchen.
The Pavilion is available for private hire, and is frequently used by local clubs, for coffee mornings and for private parties, all at a reasonable rate.
The Club’s popular car boot sales and cafe are held every Thursday during the summer between May and September. There is a pitch fee per vehicle but unfortunately, catering vans and HGV’s are not permitted.
During the winter there is a coffee morning held every Thursday between September and April

The Pavilion
We have plans to restore our pavilion to its former glory and bring new facilities fit for the 21st century.
Funding Plans:

Demolish, rebuild and extend the toilet block at the rear of the building including disabled facilities.

We’d like to refurbish the kitchen and bar areas, to make them more usable for our social and community events.

We’d like to complete a general redecoration and modernisation to ensure the space is bright and usable for everyone.

We’d like to build an outdoor gym and create space for a table tennis table and basketball, to extend the sports offering for the community.
